When Should I Start Training My Dog?
The best time to start with training is as soon as you get your new puppy! The sooner you start, the better your dog is going to respond to your comands through its life!
Puppies can start to be trained around 8 or 9 weeks old. At this age they are ready and eager to absorb information. As pack animals, they are waiting to receive orders from the pack leader; in this case, the leader is you! Training them in these months will not only help you and the dog coexist, it will also help when the dog reaches adolescence. Ideally, the same person should always train the puppy so then he does not get confused.
When the puppy has learned commands from the primary trainer, then the trainer will be able to teach the other members of the family to communicate with the dog in the correct ways. All puppies must learn the basic commands -- sit, stay, lie down and come. A well trained dog will be a good canine citizen and will be welcome in your family. A well behaved dog is the direct result of a good owner.
